XP 64 bit wasn't supported by many drivers companies. Performance wise, you're probably not going to see a big gain; 32 bit programs will run pretty much as they do on 32 bit XP (benchmarks I saw showed some ran just slightly faster, some ran just slightly slower).
64 bit versions of the game (if you can find them) should run measurably better than the 32 bit versions, though. However, my experience with UT2004 was that there wasn't much difference, and the 64 bit version had a feature that was inoperable in the 64 bit version (text to speech, I think, which in UT2004 was handy when people didn't have microphones).
Vista 64 bit drivers will probably be easier to locate. However, Vista in general has performance issues if you use the Sidebar or some of the more graphically intensive features of Aero (it's main GUI).
I think the great performance gains will be witnessed when the *games* (not just the OS) utilize multiple cores. Also, from what people tell me, high-end graphics cards can make an even slow system seem speedy in some games.

I also have a 64 bit pc but mine has a little more kick in its tail.
The best part for 64bit is in the rendering world 64bit is far better than 32bit
I am running a duel duel core yep thats right 2 duel cores on one motherboard, just to give you some idea of what that is like try beating this. Transformers 2 is 2hours and 20 something mins long it takes my pc 14 mins to convert it using "nero 9" I also have 24gig of ram with SLI+ running with 3 nvidia 8800gts graphics cards each has 1gig of ram, Yes this does sound like a silly machine and guess what I paid a silly price for it too :eek::eek::eek:
and my storage is 4x1Tb HD's and I have filled to of them up with games lol. TOO much time on my hands lol.
For me 64bit ROCKS!!!!!!!

"A little kick in its tail?!" SO which nuclear silos do you control with your PC?! hehe. I too am interested in this whole 64 bit world in the near future especially with my soon-to-be build.

Hello from the new system and Win 7 Ult x64. I am temporarily hardwired for internet. I am having trouble finding some x64 drivers like for that of my linksys Wireless 54G USB NIC.
Win7, meh seems the same just things are renamed and recategorized. LoL. then again I only have it installed for the better part of 30 mins.
Updates to come on compatibility/issues.
*Well right off the bat the drivers packed with HD4890 were a no go I had to go to the site to download the latest x64 drivers, but no biggie.

So what is the stats of your new rig then?

Asus Maximus III Formula
i7 860
HD4890 1Gb gddr5
Gskill 4gb (2x2) RAM
550Watt Modular
500Gb Sata
Win 7 Ult 64
Win7 is neat but might roll back to a 32bit OS just so that I can get use out of all my 32bit software and some hardware to work. I also have xp 64 avail but I am guessing it would be the same without the newer interface and gadgets.. (literally haha).
The only thing thats agitating me is that I have to run hardwired right now with an ethernet running damn throughout my place. There may very well be 64bit supported wireless usb NICs but I really dont wanna shell out more than I have lol even if its a measly ~$50 ish.
Oh and another thing I just installed Bf2 (1.0 no patches no mods yet) ran fine was able to crank everything out and it runs better than my last system easily
Will update with experiences...
