Default Flying Preferences

How do you guys fly the choppers and jets in game? Do you use a joystick or keyboard/mouse setup? I am curious because I am not good at flying the attack choppers and jets are only used to get to the other side of the map quickly. I don't like always being the gunner for people like Oreo and Loki and others because I will likely crash the chopper before they can get a kill! Help me out please!

I use a mouse and key board but I can only fly heli's...and it isn't as good as others that have a joystick. so my suggestion would be joystick Dan seems to really appreciate his

PS: I totally understand the flying the jet from one side of the map to the other as a means of transport- you're not alone-

I use CH joystick, W/ a separate CH 4stickThrottle quadrant and foot pedals.. Flying w/ keyboard is extremely hard.
Try finding a server that there is no one in and practice flying.
I usually practice on the Project Reality Server, since the aircraft are more challenging and easy to get shot down in.Good luck and have fun

I used a mouse and key board for years, and was starting to get ok with it, but not great. The jet is a whole new machine now, but i still use the mouse and keyboard for the choppers, just can't get the hang of it with the choppers. (though i do use the throttle to hover, this is a MUST if you are flying attack choppers in PR, it's already hard to hold still for your gunner when he is zoomed in.)

For the jets I use a Joystick and Throttle. The Joystick has a "twist" motion (3 axis) so it also is the rudder.

I tried using joystick and throttle for choppers, but tended to "porpoise" a lot (up and down) as it's easy to over correct with a joystick vs the mouse. Using the keyboard for collective (throttle) and rudder means tapping the keys to hover.

I have to try using the throttle for the collective and rudder and mouse for the cyclic.

The Thrustmaster Afterburner 2 throttle has a giant "rocker" switch for the index (middle) and pinky fingers when your left hand is resting on it.

It also has a button for the pointer finger (assigned to the Afterburner for Jets) and 3 more buttons for the thumb that I have assigned to flares and Microphone for Vent. (one unused)

Guess I have to run an experiment of using the throttle and mouse. I will let you know how that works for me.

Jets, joystick. Helos are throttled to maintain hover when released, flight with kb&m. I have a saitek cyborg not as fancy as Korg's but it was cheap and fly with me and you rack em up. When I pilot its all about my RIO!

Well, just tried it locally and I have more percise control with kbd and mouse but can pull off maneuvers with throttle and joystick that are almost impossible with a mouse.

Very steep banked turns (60 to 90deg) Split-S, Barrel Rolls, and even a Loop.

But coming in for landing or hovering, then set the throttle at 50% and use kbd and mouse for that "fine adjustment" that I have trouble with using a stick.

I use strictly the keyboard only, and i think im decently proficient at it. The mouse messed me all up, idk how people can fly with it. The trick to my flying.... alot of racing games lol. Lok flys with a keyboard too, idk if he uses a mouse though, i think he does, but not sure. My control map is W and S are my accelarate and decelerate, while my steering is A and D. Then my pitch and roll are the Arrow keys.
