Every month, month after month, the bills for the servers required to run these games, this website, and the [Team] private stats need to be paid. Back in the beginning, I pretty much paid everything out of my pocket. If I received 20 bucks in donations for the month, I was more than happy. Unfortunately times have changed and with more players to the games and more visitors to the website everyday, more and more money is needed. For a monthly breakdown of what this all costs, see this post
HERE.
Times are tough for everyone nowadays and things are no different for me. Two and a half years ago we had a game server that could barely run two games for us and cost $99 /month. The webserver and backend (stats) server were both shared reseller boxes that I was using for other business purposes anyway, so that was really no additional expense. As most people know, servers aren't really all that expensive, but what is expensive, and always will be expensive is bandwidth. Because of the popularity of these games and this site, the bandwidth usage to run them (gigabytes per day) requires that none can be shared servers anymore. Each must be its own dedicated server, as a result, the [Team] can't do this alone.
Each month, close to a thousand unique players frequent at least one of our games. If each of those players donated just 35 cents a month, the servers, website, and ventrilo would all be paid for each and every month. Unfortunately the vast majority of those players just don't get it. They figure Battlefield 2 is free to play, so why should they pay for it? Because if you don't pay for it you don't have places like this to play anymore. Be one of the few who "Gets It!" The [Team] needs your support. Click on one of the links in the main menu to become a Donator or a Subscriber today. Subscribers are merely Donators who agree to donate a specified amount at the same time each month.
Regardless of which method you choose, going without one six pack of beer, or one pizza each month and donating the money here instead of shoving it down your throat, can make the difference. The difference between these games being around a long time for many more people to enjoy, or these games closing up shop as so many have before us.
